Galerie des Modes: The End

I promise you, I never planned for it to work out that way, but the plate for December 31, 2013 was the last of Volume Four of Galerie des Modes, and therefore the end of the project that has kept me updating almost every single weekday since September 2012. Those who've been here since then, you've seen every single plate published in that magazine!

So - what is planned next?

I like doing this too much to stop. Translation is a fun exercise, and there's so much to be learned from these primary sources. While I was on a roll downloading Galerie des Modes, I also saved the Cabinet des Modes and the Journal de la Mode et du Gout, and I've been working on the former even before I finished with Galerie des Modes. While I'm going to put posting on hold for a week or two, have no fear that you'll be out of French fashion plates for the next six months, at least. (And the best part is that once again the text will match up with the pictures!)

After that, I have no concrete plans. I was thinking I would like to translate some nineteenth century fashion text, but Bunka Gakuen's late-Victorian La Mode Illustrée is probably too many images for me to host and also appears to be largely unrelated to fashion. I'd appreciate any leads for the future, if you have them!

  1. Dear Cassidy,

thank you so much for your work. It was very inspiring to me and it was a pleasure to read your daily posts.

All the best for the new year!

  2. I have truly enjoyed following your posts, and look forward to the plates you'll share next!
    Happy New Year, xoxo ~V

  3. I can't offer any real suggestions as to what you should cover next, but please add my name to the list of enthusiastic enablers! I love seeing (and reading) the fashion plates you post here. Whichever you select as your next project will be as inspiring as this one has been, I'm sure.

Though I secretly hope there are at least a few ridiculous images in the mix... I need to get my snark on.

  4. Wow that was amazing timing! I have really enjoyed the never-ending fashion show and really appreciate all the work you put into it!

  5. Dear Cassidy,
Thank you for the joy of reading your labor of love. It's been fantastic and although my French-reading abilities have suffered as a result of your fine translations, you've brought so many phrases into the open air of understanding that I can only be thankful for it.

As joyfully looking forward to the next six months as to the previous years. Whatever you take on afterwords, will happily follow along.

    Very best,

  6. Thank you all for your good wishes and kind words! Being a part of this community is such a wonderful experience - I'm just happy to be able to contribute in my own way. Can't wait to get started posting the next project!
